Beanie Weenies

Beanie Weenies, a favorite food in college dorms, makes a great meal and is an excellent lunch for work or school. It's quite easy to make, as well.

Beanie Weenies

1-28 oz. can of baked beans, any flavor
4 franks, cut into bite-sized pieces
1/3 cup of brown sugar
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
1 slice thick-cut bacon, diced
1/2 sweet onion, diced

Brown the bacon over medium heat until mostly done, then add the diced onion and cook a couple of minutes until the onion begins to be translucent. Add the remaining ingredients, stir, cover, and put into a 350°F oven for 2 hours or so. If you have a slow cooker, brown the bacon and add the onion, then transfer to the slow cooker and add everything. In a hurry? Just cook it on the stovetop until it's nice and hot all the way through.

Some Buttermilk Cornbread would go nicely with this, don't you think?

Jolene at EverydayFoodie made an excellent-looking batch of Beanie Weenies. See, even foodies like the good, simple foods.

  1. I've never had anything like this, but it sounds like my kind of meal!

    1. Beanie Weenies is a reasonably inexpensive and surprisingly healthful meal. Kids usually love it. Give it a try sometime, Jolene.
